Quiet Running Garbage Disposal

Disposal is surprisingly quiet when on & appears to work ok. Have not itilized that much yet as I was on travel the weeks after install.

When I bought my house in 2007, the Whirlpool GC1000XE 1/3 hp in Sink Disposer was already installed and it worked great up until about 45 days ago when it developed a small, but annoying leak. Since it had worked so well for nearly 20 years I thought it would be a good idea to replace it with the same model (or as close as I could get). I ordered through Amazon, received and installed. At first, it seemed to work just fine. Then, after a day or two, it sometimes worked and sometimes only made an electrical hum (no rotation). It made no difference if there was food, or other objects in the disposal. If I manually rotated it, sometimes it would work and sometimes not. When I received this disposal, the packaging looked as though it had already been opened (and the disposal used) because the Styrofoam was broken. I have arranged a replacement through Amazon and we will see if the replacement works any better. I would be really upset if I had paid a plumber to install this disposal. Very disappointed with this situation.

This was a replacement for an older Whirlpool Sink Disposer that failed after three years. So far works great, and is much quieter than its predecesor. Installation was quite seamless too.

My old disposal died and I ordered this on Amazon. It was an exact match. The installation instructions were very good. I followed them and it took about 40 minutes to remove the old one and install the new one.

This is the second garbage disposer we've had installed in 3 years. We barely use it. We don't want to clog up our drain line to the street. The water is slow draining at times.

The Whirlpool brand has really disappointed me. It died a little more than a month after we started using it. Placed a warranty call a was told that it would be nearly 6 weeks before someone would come out to repair it. I replaced it with an Insinkerator and it™™s not only quieter but also more efficient.

Hard to install by yourself

It took me a week of trying various ways of installing the slip ring by myself. It needs a new design and it's on probably most all garbage disposal brands. Very hard to do by yourself. I ended up using a pair of vice grips to hold one end of the ring in the groove after tying all the stuff above it together with string and forcing the ring into the groove. That being said it seems to be doing the job once I got it in.

Works as advertised, easy install with instructions. Simply removed my 11 year old whirlpool and bolted this one right back where the other was.

Purchased disposer in January and it broke in May. I am not a big food disposer user as we are on a septic system and I have always been told not to utilize with a septic system. I run the disposer if I have rinsed dishes for the dishwasher. Would not even have one but when we purchased this house 14 years ago there was one here.

When previous 1/2HP garbage disposal died after only 5 years of use, decided to downgrade to 1/3HP Whirlpool brand. Installation took about 1 hour. Seems to perform well so far. Will know better how long it lasts since I wrote Installation date on it to help gauge longevity.

I bought one as a direct replacement, had it two years and the same failure occurred, internal seal so water was leaking through the electric motor. Must be a product issue when two exact units have exact same failure. More disposals in this house than the rest of my life, probably the last Whirlpool appliance
